 GO CARDINALS!!!

Creating a successful and exciting band program requires preparation, hard work and dedication. Certain guidelines and obligations must be set to achieve our goals. If a student joins the band they must remain for two terms.

This document is designed to make all the parties involved aware of the requirements expected of every band member. Please read this contract carefully. If you should have any questions regarding its contents, I can be reached at the Junior High School from 7:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

1. PREPARATION: Students are expected to come to all band classes with their instrument, music, folder, pencil and an agenda book. Any exception to this rule requires a note from the parent.

2. HARD WORK: There is band homework every night! Daily home practice is expected. A minimum of 30 minutes every day is recommended. This is essential in reaching our goals.

2a.    The Weekly Practice Log must be completed and signed by a parent/guardian. Every Student has the ability to make his or her weekly grade an A. Note the chart at the bottom of the log, which indicates what the weekly grade will be.

2b.    Band Instruments are not to be left in the band room especially over the weekend. Any student that leaves their instrument in the band room over the weekend will receive a zero averaged into their grade. Extenuating circumstances may be considered.

3. DEDICATION: Students are expected to attend all performances. In the event that a conflict may arise which prevents a student from attending a performance, a note from the parent must be submitted two weeks prior to the performance. This is a team activity; we need everyone here to create a successful program. A student will receive two zero test grades that will be averaged into their grade if they miss one performance without prior permission. If a student misses two performances without prior permission they will automatically be excluded from the band program.

All requirements must be fulfilled to be eligible to receive awards and certificates.

Please remember that parental support and involvement are important factors regarding your child's ability to successfully learn to play and enjoy music.

Sincerely,

Richard T. Cordeiro

Band Director
